This game takes the best parts of both and makes them much better. The fights are great, with the option to finish a mission by being quiet and breaking things, or giving in to the fun of using your guns and blades for a few fast rounds of strong attacks — both choices work well and feel good. The screen setup is tricky enough to show the AI’s view and warning signs, but easy enough to plan well inside that system. You learn some tough things, but you rarely need to learn the same thing twice.

The early part of the game is fun and pulls you in, but the game really shines once your team starts to get their own powers, and almost all of them feel helpful and new, with a few old ones like guard mode getting small updates to make them better. After a while, you see how useful each fighter and piece of gear is during each mission, which fighters work well together, which ones are best for certain missions, and which ones completely change how your team acts sneaky or aggressive.
